Abstract Hip Hop is typically instrumental (although collaborations with rappers are frequent) and complex. Layers of samples combine to make music that, although it relies on Hip Hop tempo beats and some scratching, has much in common with Trip Hop and Electronica. DJ Krush, The Automator, Luke Vibert and DJ Shadow are all excellent purveyors of Abstract Hip Hop. The term can also be used to refer to rappers whose lyrics are abstract and poetic such as Latyrx or Kool Keith but as such the term is rather ambiguous.
